Home / Roncesvalles To Santiago / Day 21 – Leon to San Martin del Camino — 27 km

On the way out of Leon this morning…

On we walk –  we did not take a rest day today because we got into Leon so early yesterday and had the opportunity of site seeing and exploring enough of  Leon.   Both Shereez and I felt strong and decided to walk with the group rather than stay in Leon for the day.

Today’s walk to San Martin del Camino wasn’t at all hectic and my feet are coping way better, walking longer stretches without having to rest my feet.

Pic below — normal pitstop for a hot yummy cafe con leche and a bite to eat with the rest of the clan.

San Martin del Camino is a quiet little town, as so many of them have been along the Camino.  We hardly see any people in these small towns / villages and continue to wonder how they survive.   Pilgrims are the only people supporting these towns / villages.

All the pilgrims in San Martin del Camino made me realize how my trip was really the United Nations del Camino.

Here’s a list of the countries of people I’ve met on this trip (in no particular order):

  • United States (loads, most of them inspired by the movie ¨The Way¨)
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Holland
  • Belgium
  • Spain (loads from Spain)
  • France
  • Germany (inspired by the book ¨See you later¨this is the English title, was written by a German comedian who walked the Camino, apparently a fun read)
  • Austria
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • South America
  • Argentina
  • Italy
  • England
  • Ireland
  • S. Korea
  • Lativia
  • Denmark
  • Japan
  • Norway
  • Finland
  • oh and South Africa (Pretoria and Limpopo)

On I walk…….
