Day 7 – Logrono to Navarette — 13 km

Home / Roncesvalles To Santiago / Day 7 – Logrono to Navarette — 13 km

Happy birthday – 48 today.  Shereez woke me up with a yummy chocolate and custard slice with a kit kat stuck in the middle, truly the yummiest birthday cake I have eaten.  Today is somewhat special in a different kind of way as no one but Shereez knows it is my birthday.  Celebrating today in true Camino style and I am most fortunate to be ¨living my wish / dream¨ today!

On our way out of Logrono I stopped for my first caffe leche – yummy yummy yummy. (cappuccino)!

Today was mostly uphill, but gently so…nothing as annoying as some of the earlier hills and mountains that we had to tackle. The first town we went through was Navarette, a quiet farming community.  In light of our long walk yesterday we decided to stop and spend the day in Navarette.

With the constant road alterations in this section of the walk the waymarking (yellow arrows) were a bit disturbed so we had to stay alert and focussed.  The natural pathways turned into a rich red clay like surface, so glad it was dry and not wet.

It seems that the El Camino takes us by the church in each village we go through. They are the highest and most visible points in the villages, which means an uphill walk into most of them thus far. They have all been worthwhile climbs, even though my feet still ache and my blisters still fill with fluid. (so odd that the blisters have been threaded yet still fill with fluid).   The churches are beautiful and easily outdate any churches anywhere else in the world. I have not been too focussed on going in all of them but the few I have seen have been interesting.

Our fancy flip flops helped us get through another day – so thankful and grateful for the odd looking sandals but without them right now I don’t think I would have got much further than Vianna.

On we walk……
